SEARCHES FOR VITAMIN C SKINCARE HAVE RISEN BY 3,000% – THIS IS WHY

Teaser: it helps deal with phone-face and fights skin stressors.

Let’s face it: you can’t search for #beautyshelfie without Vitamin C skincare featured in the photo – blogger and beauty eds are obsessed with it. As such, it’s earned itself the title of most searched beauty ingredient of 2017. According to research from Pinterest, interest in Vitamin C increased by a whopping 3,379%.

So why exactly is a Vitamin C serum – and associated Vitamin C skincare – it so good for our skin?

The NCBI claims an endless list of benefits for your skin- from the promotion of collagen, protection against UV and damage and photoageing, and as a solution to inflammatory skin conditions like Psoriasis and acne.

But with more and more beauty products claiming to be packed with Vitamin C, it can be a struggle working out which ones are worth their salt.

Can you get your fill with supplements? What’s the deal with Vitamin C IV drips? And is Vitamin C skincare a fad or a fundamental part of your routine?

Dr. Justine Hextall, dermatologist at The Harley Medical Group says: “Vitamin C is one of the most powerful antioxidants available to treat the skin. It doesn’t just even out your skin tone and fight against free radicals – at night time, skin renewal is at its peak so this is the time to apply active ingredients such as vitamin C.”

Sound way too good to be true?

WHAT IS VITAMIN C?

Remember when everyone became obsessed with BB Creams? Or when hyaluronic acid started appearing in every single skincare product?

Well, Vitamin C is about to give these a run for their money. And the water-soluble natural antioxidant didn’t become the biggest beauty ingredient of 2017 for nothing – it promises to repair and regenerate tissues, boost your collagen structures for positive ageing and it’s anti-inflammatory and antibacterial.

So far, so good.

According to Bianca, boosting your body with a healthy dose of Vitamin C goes a long way – and it doesn’t just apply to your skin.

“It can help protect against pollution, carcinogenic free radicals and sun damage thanks to its antioxidant status that rids the body of harmful toxins,” she explains.

“With cancer specifically, there are numerous studies that have shown high doses of Vitamin C can not only slow down the growth of certain cancer cells but can also block tumor growth in certain cancers.”

VITAMIN C SKINCARE BENEFITS

Drenching your skin with Vitamin C is scientifically proven to stimulate collagen production, but studies have linked the ingredient to several skin bonuses, and claim it can also be effective for:

  • Treating acne
  • Promoting luminosity and treating sun-damaged skin
  • Defending against pollution damage
  • Supporting the building blocks within our cells

It’ll also aid you in healthy glowing skin, even when you’ve skipped a few hours kip. Crave radiance? It boosts this too.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN VITAMIN C SKINCARE PRODUCTS

If you’ve been pacing the aisles looking for the right Vitamin C skincare, you’ve probably been overwhelmed with the products on offer. Serums, creams, moisturisers… these days there’s an abundance of options.

But how do you determine which ones are worth your hard earned cash?

Look first at the ingredient content before the brand name.

“Serums and cream are great providing they have a suitable percentage of active Vitamin C, but when shopping for the best buys, I’d look for at least 20% of the product to contain Vitamin C and anything less than 10% is certainly not worth using,” Bianca reveals.

“Professionally, my experience of topical Vitamin C is that is can be unstable, which is why a higher percentage is desired to account for this.”

Why should I use Vitamin C skincare serums and creams?

Most women fall short of the daily recommended amount of Vitamin C. That’s unless you eat regularly eat a kilo of oranges? No. You could do with a boost then.

Enter Vitamin C serums and creams. Teamed with equally important ingredients like hyaluronic acid and Vitamin A (retinol) it can seriously pack a punch when it comes to rejuvenating your skin.Vitamin skin reviver CBD skincare

When to use Vitamin C skincare

“I would recommend the use of Vitamin C Serum both morning and night,” Bianca advises.

“Using it in the morning it will help to limit the damage caused by pollution, but night use is also important as the benefits are greater during sleep.”

Why? Because around 90% of body regeneration reportedly takes place during our sleep cycles, meaning it’s working hard while you’re snoozing hard.
